1.2relating to license plates; establishing "Breast Cancer Research" plates;proposing
1.3coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 168.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. [168.1294] "BREAST CANCER RESEARCH" PLATES.
1.6 Subdivision 1. Issuance of plates. The commissioner shall issue special "Breast
1.7Cancer Research" plates or a single motorcycle plate to an applicant who:
1.8(1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, noncommercial one-ton pickup
1.9truck, motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle;
1.10(2) pays a fee of $10 for each set of plates;
1.11(3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013, along with any
1.12other fees required by this chapter;
1.13(4) contributes a minimum of $20 to the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of
1.14Minnesota for breast cancer research; and
1.15(5) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles
1.16and licensing of drivers.
1.17 Subd. 2. Design. The commissioner shall design the special plate to contain the
1.18inscription "Minnesota Cares" and the pink breast cancer ribbon.
1.19 Subd. 3. Plates transfer. On application to the commissioner and payment of a
1.20transfer fee of $5, special plates issued under this section may be transferred to another
1.21motor vehicle if the subsequent vehicle is:
1.22(1) qualified under subdivision 1, clause (1), to bear the special plates; and
1.23(2) registered to the same individual to whom the special plates were originally issued.
2.1 Subd. 4. Exemption. Special plates issued under this section are not subject to
2.2section 168.1293, subdivision 2.
2.3 Subd. 5. Fees. Fees collected under subdivision 1, clause (2), and subdivision 3 are
2.4credited to the vehicle services operating account in the special revenue fund.
2.5 Subd. 6. No refund. Contributions under this section must not be refunded.
2.6EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2014, for plates issued
2.7on or after that date.
