1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to human services; establishing a statewide self-advocacy network for
1.3persons with disabilities; appropriating money.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. SELF-ADVOCACY NETWORK FOR PERSONS WITH
1.6DISABILITIES; APPROPRIATION.
1.7(a) $95,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2013 to the
1.8commissioner of human services to establish and maintain a statewide self-advocacy
1.9network for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
1.10(b) The self-advocacy network must focus on ensuring that persons with disabilities
1.11are:
1.12(1) informed of and educated about their legal rights in the areas of education,
1.13employment, housing, transportation, and voting; and
1.14(2) educated and trained to self-advocate for their rights under law.
1.15(c) Self-advocacy network activities under this section include but are not limited to:
1.16(1) education and training, including preemployment and workplace skills;
1.17(2) establishment and maintenance of a communication and information exchange
1.18system for self-advocacy groups; and
1.19(3) financial and technical assistance to self-advocacy groups.
