SENATE BILL No. 403

 

 

June 16, 2015, Introduced by Senators KNOLLENBERG, JONES, HORN, SCHUITMAKER, PROOS, HERTEL and MARLEAU and referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1969 PA 287, entitled

 

"An act to regulate pet shops, animal control shelters, and animal

protection shelters; to establish uniform procedures and minimum

requirements for adoption of dogs, cats, and ferrets; and to

prescribe penalties and civil fines and to provide remedies,"

 

(MCL 287.331 to 287.340) by adding section 8b.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 8b. (1) Beginning 60 days after the effective date of the

 

amendatory act that added this section, euthanasia of a dog or cat

 

that is physically located in an animal control shelter shall only

 

be performed by administering an injection of a commercially

 

prepared solution as provided in section 7333 of the public health

 

code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.7333.

 

     (2) The requirements of this section do not apply to a

 

veterinarian licensed under part 188 of the public health code,

 

1978 PA 368, MCL 333.18801 to 333.18838.

 


     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
