HOUSE BILL No. 5139

 

 

October 19, 2017, Introduced by Reps. Rendon, Lucido, Victory, Kelly, Kahle, Frederick, Kosowski, Hughes, Alexander, Allor and Hauck and referred to the Committee on Workforce and Talent Development.

 

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1166a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1166a. (1) Not later than July 1, 2018, the department

 

shall develop or adopt, and make available to schools, a model

 

program of instruction in career development that meets at least

 

all of the following:

 

     (a) Defines learning targets and themes for each grade level.

 

     (b) Includes instruction for pupils in grades K to 12.

 

     (c) Incorporates career development education embedded within

 

core instruction.

 

     (d) Includes strategies for engaging parents and community


business and industry interests.

 

     (2) Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the board of a

 

school district or board of directors of a public school academy

 

shall ensure that the school district's or public school academy's

 

curriculum incorporates instruction on career development for each

 

of grades K to 12.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
