HOUSE BILL No. 4902
September 7, 2011, Introduced by Reps. Townsend, Brunner, Rutledge, Cavanagh and Hovey-Wright and referred to the Committee on Education.
A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1147a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1147a. (1) If the parent or legal guardian of 2 or more
children who are multiple birth siblings and who will be enrolled
in a public school in the same grade submits a written request to
school officials to place the children in the same classroom or in
separate classrooms, the public school shall comply with that
request to the extent practicable. However, if there is a
documented behavioral issue involving the siblings that indicates
that the requested placement may be disruptive to the educational
process, the public school is not required to comply with the
request. This section does not apply to a public school that only
has 1 classroom for the affected grade and does not require a
public school to alter the number of classrooms for the affected
grade.
(2) As used in this section, "multiple birth siblings" means
twins, triplets, or higher multiples.
