A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

"The revised school code,"

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1162a.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1162a. (1) A principal or comparable administrator of a public school that operates a school library shall designate an individual to supervise pupils in the school library when a certified library media specialist is not present and the school library is open to pupils. However, this individual shall not provide instruction to pupils unless he or she holds an appropriate Michigan teaching certificate.

(2) As used in this section, "certified library media specialist" means a certificated teacher under section 1531 with an ND library media endorsement issued by the department.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law.
