A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Richard Sheets on the occasion of his retirement from the Legislative Services Agency.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Richard Sheets on the
occasion of his retirement from the Legislative Services Agency.
Whereas, Richard "Dick" Sheets, who has been an
editorial assistant in the Office of Code Revision of the
Legislative Services Agency since 1997, is retiring in 2011;
Whereas, Dick, a lifelong resident of Indiana, was active
in the Boy Scouts and Air Explorers from childhood through
high school, graduated from Columbus Senior High School
in 1964, and graduated from Indiana University in 1971 with
a double major in English and Journalism;
Whereas, Dick served in the United States Army as a
communications specialist and was stationed at Ft.
Campbell, Kentucky, and in Germany;
Whereas, Dick, who began working for the Columbus
Republic daily newspaper during college summer breaks,
returned to the Republic after graduating from IU and held
a series of positions, first as sports writer, then as sports
editor, and later as news Editor and copy Editor, spending a
total of 22 full-time years at the Republic;
Whereas, Through his education and career in journalism, Dick developed a mastery of English grammar, style, and usage that he has used to great effect in nearly 14 years of editing the documents prepared by the Legislative
Services Agency on behalf of the Indiana General Assembly;
Whereas, Dick's work in the Office of Code Revision has
been unfailingly thorough, conscientious, and professional,
and he has provided strong leadership to his fellow editorial
assistants;
Whereas, Dick will be greatly missed by his friends and
co-workers in the Legislative Services Agency;
Whereas, Dick is an individual of many interests and
accomplishments, having served as a volunteer and coach in
the Columbus Babe Ruth Baseball organization for many
years, during which his team won the 1991 Babe Ruth
16-to-18-year-old State Championship and he was named
USA Baseball/Topps 1993 Indiana Amateur Baseball Coach
of the Year, and now being active as a woodworker, stained
glass window artist, antique collector, and genealogy
researcher; and
Whereas, Dick and his wife Pam have been married since
1972 and are the proud parents of a son, Shawn Sheets, and
a daughter, Shannon Sheets, and the grandparents of two
dearly loved grandchildren, five-year-old Riley and
two-year-old Paige: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates Dick Sheets on
his retirement from the Legislative Services Agency, thanks him for his
dedicated and outstanding service to the state of Indiana, and wishes
Dick and his family much happiness in the coming years.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the
Secretary of the Senate to Dick Sheets and his family.
