SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Professor David Hadley on his retirement after decades of service to Wabash College.

    Whereas, Professor David Hadley taught students at Wabash College since 1969. Most recently, Professor Hadley taught courses in American politics, political institutions, and political behavior. His research focuses on political parties and interest groups in Indiana, and opinion polarization in American politics;

    Whereas, In addition to teaching and researching politics, Professor Hadley has maintained an active political career. He was elected to two terms on a local school board and served as chair of the board for six of those years;

    Whereas, While on sabbatical, Professor Hadley worked as a senior fellow on the legislative staff for Governor Evan Bayh. He also served for seven years on the Indiana State Ethics Commission, five of those years as the chair. He has chaired the Montgomery County Democratic Party and is a member of the Crawfordsville Plan Commission;


    Whereas, A few of the many accolades earned throughout Professor David Hadley's career include: the Wabash College McLain-McTurnan-Arnold Award for Teaching Excellence (1990), the Lilly Endowment Faculty Open Fellowship (1990- 91), the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for College Teachers (1976-77) and numerous notable publications;

    Whereas, Professor Hadley and his wife, Sheridan, share a home on seven acres with their two horses, a donkey, and their beagle Truman; and

    Whereas, Many students have been profoundly impacted by the influence of Professor Hadley. He has contributed greatly to academia, the political community, and his local community: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates Professor David Hadley on his retirement after decades of service to Wabash College.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Professor David Hadley.
