his great uncle. He was raised with three older brothers and
a younger sister;
Whereas, Delbert spent his formative years on Middle
Creek, near Bedford, Kentucky. In his freshman year of high
school, the family moved to Bethlehem, Indiana. Delbert
graduated from New Washington High School in 1946;
Whereas, Erma Jean Tuley was born at home on January
11, 1932 in Rockport, Indiana to William Franklin Tuley and
Lucy Agnes Bence Tuley. She was the youngest of three,
having an older brother and sister;
Whereas, In 1941, when Erma was in third grade, the
family moved to Clarksville, Indiana. Erma graduated from
Jeffersonville High School in 1950;
Whereas, Delbert and Erma met in August 1950 in
Jeffersonville, Indiana when Delbert was returning from a
double date. When he spotted Erma walking down the street,
he did a double take. Delbert's friend knew Erma and set
them up on a date the next Sunday to watch Delbert play
baseball. Delbert said it was love at first sight;
Whereas, Delbert was drafted in the Army in January
1951 and the couple decided they would get married when he
returned. In August 1951, while Delbert was on leave, the
couple tied the knot at Erma's church, Wesley Chapel Ohio
Falls Methodist, in Clarksville, Indiana. They enjoyed each
other's company for a few days before Delbert went back to
camp in California. Erma stayed behind and lived at her
parent's house;
Whereas, Erma moved to California in February 1952 to
live with her husband in a tiny upstairs apartment. After
being unsuccessful in finding a job, she finally walked up to
the manager of Montgomery Ward and said that she wanted
to apply for a job. Although there were no job openings, the
manager hired her anyway;
Whereas, The new couple lived on a shoestring but with
Erma's first two paychecks they bought a Monopoly set and
a $17 radio. When Delbert got paid they would go to the
movies, buy two bags of popcorn, and share a soft drink;
Whereas, In November 1952, their first child, Deborah Jean was born at Fort Knox, Kentucky while Delbert was at Camp San Luis Obispo, California. Ultimately, there would be three children that were the couple's pride and joy. Deron Jay was born in 1958 and Deena Jana was born in 1963, both in Jeffersonville, Indiana;
Whereas, After Delbert was discharged from the Army, he spent his life in a variety of occupations: he sold insurance, ran machines at a pipe making company, worked for a heavy equipment company, served as a Clarksville policeman, worked as a detective for the railroad, and sold mobile homes. His last career in Indiana was owner and operator of Trailerama Trailer Sales in Memphis, Indiana;

a heavy equipment company, chemical company, paint
company, and a machining company. She did a variety of
jobs during this time from bookkeeper to advertising
executive;
Whereas, Erma kept the books for Delbert and their
travel trailer business. She also owned a ceramic shop
where she taught lessons and fired the finished pieces;
Whereas, In 1982, Erma returned to school and earned
her licensed practical nurse degree. She then worked in a
hospital, a doctor's office and ultimately at a health care
facility where she became the administrator;
Whereas, The Callis family loved to camp and fish
together. Delbert and Erma hosted camping excursions that
took 15 to 20 camping trailer families to different locations
with various activities along the way;
Whereas, Delbert, Erma, and the children traveled to
many states east of the Mississippi and parts of Canada,
which was a great education for the children;
Whereas, Delbert and Erma sold their businesses and moved to Davenport, Florida in 1985. Delbert oversaw the operations and maintenance of Polo Park, where they still reside. Erma worked several jobs in the medical field and ended up at New Horizons, a healthcare facility with 60 beds.
Delbert joined New Horizons in 1996, working in building
maintenance and also teaching the new employees how to
cook for the residents. They both retired from New Horizons
in 2008;
Whereas, Delbert enjoys fishing and boating at his fish
camp in Deland, Florida. He is also a sports fanatic and
loves to watch all kinds of sports, especially his beloved
Kentucky Wildcats basketball. Delbert is a handyman and
can fix anything. He has built additions on his home and
enjoys keeping his yard beautiful;
Whereas, Erma enjoys sewing in her new sewing room,
going to tea, and spending time with her friends. She is also
very artistic and draws, paints in oils, and has even made
several stained glass creations that grace their home;
Whereas, Delbert and Erma are accomplished chefs, a
valuable asset that has been passed on to their children and
grandchildren. Delbert cooks in a southern country style and
Erma creates gourmet fare. Erma has many kitchen gadgets
and makes her own whipped cream and flavored vinegars
from scratch. With the help of Delbert, they grow their own
herbs;
Whereas, Delbert and Erma have two cherished
grandchildren, Kasie Shaune Hennessey and Kegan Thomas-
Lyle Hennessey; and
