SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council to assign to the Criminal Law & Sentencing Policy Committee, for study during the 2013 legislative interim, the topic of surety bail in Indiana's criminal justice system.

    Whereas, This section of Indiana's Code is set to expire November 1, 2013;

    Whereas, The study should consider the relative merits of various methods used by the courts to ensure the appearance of defendants;

    Whereas, Evidence related to those methods' effectiveness and their impact on Indiana's criminal justice system should be examined; and

    Whereas, Based on their findings, the study committee should determine whether statutory changes are necessary in order to modernize Indiana's bail bond system: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. The Legislative Council is urged to assign to the Criminal Law & Sentencing Policy Committee, for study during the 2013 legislative interim, the topic of surety bail in Indiana's criminal justice system.
