retirement as executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Lois Rockhill on her
retirement as executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank.
Whereas, Lois Rockhill graduated from Anderson College
in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and social work;
Whereas, Lois Rockhill spent two years as a community
developer in the Peace Corps in Turkey and she served as a
social worker at various locations including a public welfare
department, children's home, and a social service agency
before earning her master's degree in 1988;
Whereas, Lois Rockhill began working at Second Harvest
Food Bank in 1989 and has spent the last 23 years working as
executive director of the organization;
Whereas, Second Harvest Food Bank has grown
significantly since Rockhill began as executive director.
Second Harvest distributed 450,000 pounds of food in 1989
compared to 9.5 million pounds of food distributed in 2011;
Whereas, While at Second Harvest, Rockhill has written a monthly column on hunger and poverty for the Herald Bulletin in Anderson, which has frequently been picked up by other
newspapers in the region;
Whereas, Lois Rockhill served for many years as a member
of a national task force addressing child hunger in the United
States. She has served on the board of directors of the
Audubon Society in East Central Indiana, the Nuclear Weapons
Peace Campaign, and chaired a Clinical Pastoral Education
steering committee;
Whereas, Lois Rockhill served was an officer with the
United Way of Delaware County Executive Directors Council,
the Purdue Extension Services in Madison County, and
currently serves on the board of the Indiana food bank
association; and
Whereas, Lois Rockhill's compassionate dedication to the
mission of Second Harvest Food Bank has resulted in the
alleviation of hunger for literally thousands of families in east
central Indiana: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Lois Rockhill on her retirement as executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Lois Rockhill.
