SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Commander James Stewart and the Crane Naval Base for their contributions to our State and Nation.

    Whereas, Crane Naval Base is the third largest Naval installation in the world. The facility consists of 108 square miles and over 1,000,000 square feet of office space in Martin, Greene, and Lawrence counties;

    Whereas, Crane Naval Base is the 11th largest single-site employer in Indiana and the 3rd largest employer in Southwest Indiana with 3,068 Navy employees and 800 Army employees. Of the 3,068 Navy employees, 73% are scientists, engineers, and technicians-- the facility has hired at least 480 employees since 1999;

    Whereas, Crane Naval Base's contributions to Indiana's economy are significant with over $400,000,000 in contract support services. The Base adds $2,500,000 to Indiana's economy daily and pays salaries in excess of $200,000,000 annually to it's employees who hail from 24 Indiana counties;

    Whereas, Crane Naval Base plays an integral role in

protecting our Nation's interests at home and abroad by providing engineering and technical support services for electronic warfare and special warfare weapons; and

    Whereas, Indiana and our Nation greatly benefit from the leadership of Crane Commander James Stewart who overseas the Navy's third largest base in the world and has made many sacrifices warranting numerous personal awards including two Meritorious Service Medals, three Air Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medals, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and multiple unit citations and campaign ribbons: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes Commander James Stewart and the Crane Naval Base for their contributions to our State and Nation.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Commander James Stewart and the Crane Naval Base.
