A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Tammy Brant on
being named the Midwest District Middle School Physical
Education Teacher of the Year.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Tammy Brant
on being named the Midwest District Middle School Physical
Education Teacher of the Year.
Whereas, Tammy Brant, a physical education teacher at
Selma Middle School, has been named the Midwest District
Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year;
Whereas, The National Association for Sport and
Physical Education (NASPE) will honor Brant with her
award at NASPE's national convention in San Diego,
California, held March 29 through April 1, 2011. NASPE is
a non-profit professional membership association that is the
foremost national authority on physical education;
Whereas, Brant's award is a recognition of her
exemplary teaching performance at Selma Middle School,
where for seven years she has been an exceptional motivator
and educator of the importance of physical fitness;
Whereas, Brant's zeal for physical activity prompted her to secure a $15,000 local grant which she used to purchase
heart monitors for each of her students. The monitors are to
help her students track their individual level of fitness and
respective progress. In addition, she has worked with a
registered dietician to implement nutritional lessons;
Whereas, Dennis Thompson, the Principal of Selma
Middle School, remarked, "When I stop by Mrs. Brant's
class, I see someone who is totally engaged in her lessons
and is very much respected by her students. She has a
passion and desire to make fitness attainable for everyone";
Whereas, Beyond the NASPE award, Brant's
achievements include: Indiana Association for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Middle School
Teacher of the Year; NASPE STARS; and Ball State
University Physical Education Graduate Student of the Year;
Whereas, Brant goes on to compete against three other
district winners for a National Physical Education Teacher
of the Year award that will be handed out at the NASPE Hall
of Fame Banquet on April 1; and
Whereas, Motivating and teaching today's youth the
value of physical fitness is paramount to having a healthy
population, and the work of physical educators like Tammy
Brant are integral to that process: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates Tammy Brant on
being named the Midwest District Middle School Physical Education
Teacher of the Year.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Tammy Brant.
