SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Dennis Stockdale on being named one of Education Week's Leaders to Learn From.

    Whereas, Dennis Stockdale is in his sixth year as superintendent of Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community Schools;

    Whereas, During his tenure, Stockdale was integral in replacing the old high school, which was nearly a century old, with a new school capable of handling new technology;

    Whereas, Stockdale's appreciation of the benefits of technology is what led to his being named one of only sixteen "Leaders to Learn From" by Education Week. He was recognized for making the rural DeKalb school district a model for technology-based instruction;

    Whereas, Under his direction, every student, from kindergarten through high school, works with either an iPad or a laptop;

    Whereas, Students have made impressive gains in the second year of the connectivity program, based in part on their

teachers' ability to customize instruction, allowing each student to reach their individual potential;

    Whereas, In April, Stockdale will travel to Washington, D.C. to be recognized and meet with the United States Secretary of Education. Stockdale intends to make three points in that meeting_every student should have a computing device, the device must be wired for connectivity outside of school, and the instruction must be tailored to individual students; and

    Whereas, Dennis Stockdale's dedication to Garrett-Keyser- Butler Community Schools has been tremendous and his efforts are worthy of recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes Superintendent Dennis Stockdale on being named one of Education Week's "Leaders to Learn From".
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dennis Stockdale.
