Indiana National Guard deploying in 2011.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing the soldiers in the
Indiana National Guard deploying in 2011.
Whereas, The Indiana National Guard continues to play
a vital role in protecting the freedom and liberty of the
United States with its efforts abroad;
Whereas, The deployments of the Indiana National
Guard in 2011 include the following: the 938th Military
Police Detachment; the Operational Mentor and Liaison
Team (OMLT) #1; the 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade
(BFSB); the 819th Fire Fighter Detachment; the 4-19th
Agribusiness Development Team, the Operational Mentor
and Liaison Team (OMLT) # 2; and Detachment 3, Company
D, 126th Aviation (C23 fixed wing);
Whereas, The 938th Military Police Detachment,
headquartered out of Gary, Indiana, recently deployed to
Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn;
Whereas, The objective of Operation New Dawn is for U.S. troops to train Iraqis to handle their own security, and
to eventually transfer full responsibility for security back to
the country;
Whereas, The soldiers of the 938th
Military Police
Detachment will be serving at Victory Base Complex in
Baghdad. The unit's job is to conduct law and order
operations, and to ensure that good order, discipline, and
security is maintained throughout the complex. Presently,
the unit has 78 soldiers, with 45 of them deployed. The unit
commander is Captain Leroy Brown, and the detachment
non-commissioned officer in charge is Master Sergeant Gary
Small;
Whereas, The Operational Mentor and Liaison Team
(OMLT) #1 includes a team of five Indiana National Guard
soldiers who are scheduled to deploy to Slovakia, and then
ultimately Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom. Their primary job will be to mentor Afghan
logistics troops. The team's commander is Major Dennis
Mankus from Lafayette, Indiana;
Whereas, The 219th Surveillance Brigade recently
deployed some of its soldiers to the mobilization site at Fort
Lewis in Washington, after which they will head to Iraq in
support of Operation New Dawn. The remaining troops will
deploy on March 20, 2011. Their mission is to conduct
reconnaissance and surveillance operations, and to provide
assets to enhance the reconnaissance and surveillance
capability of other brigades. The brigade's commander is
Colonel Ivan Denton, and Command Sergeant Major Otis
Pugh is the ranking non-commissioned officer;
Whereas, The seven soldiers from the 819th Firefighter Detachment will be deploying to Afghanistan in April, 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The soldiers will be running routine firefighter operations at the air facility on Base Shindand. The non-commissioned officer in
charge is Staff Sergeant Karl Crist;
Whereas, The 4-19th Agribusiness Development Team is
scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in the summer of 2011 in
support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit will
deploy to Khost Province to develop new agribusiness
projects while sustaining 3-19th ADT agricultural
development, to foster sustainable and legal economic
growth, and to strengthen the connection between the people
of Khost Province and the government of Afghanistan. The
team is commanded by Colonel Shane Halbrook;
Whereas, Detachment 3, Company D, 126th Aviation
(C23 fixed wing) is a nine-man unit, stationed in
Indianapolis, that is set to deploy to Iraq in August 2011.
The soldiers will fly and man the C-23 Sherpa fixed winged
aircraft in various transportation missions in support of
Operation New Dawn. Leading the detachment is Chief
Warrant Officer 3 Joseph Jennings; and
Whereas, Hoosiers are grateful for the incredible
sacrifices that the soldiers and their families of the Indiana
National Guard make each day. Their commitment to trying
to make a difference in Iraq and Afghanistan, and protecting
the freedom and liberty of the United States is to be
commended: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes the soldiers in the
Indiana National Guard deploying in 2011.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate if hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to

Umbarger, Adjutant General of Indiana; Captain Leroy Brown; Major
Dennis Mankus; Colonel Ivan Denton; Staff Sergeant Karl Crist;
Colonel Shane Halbrook; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Joseph Jennings; and Major Shawn D. Gardner, Director of Public Affairs of the Indiana National Guard.
