SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Nick Hebert on winning a 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

    Whereas, Nick Hebert of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and a senior at Floyd Central High School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Award;
    
    Whereas, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities;

    Whereas, Nick volunteered his time and energy to a community 5K run and Christmas dinner he founded called "Miles for Merry Miracles," raising $25,000 since 2008;

    Whereas, Nick used the $25,000 to provide underprivileged children with clothes, shoes, and toys during the holiday season. In addition to the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, Nick's efforts earned him the Eagle Scout

Award; and

    Whereas, The success of the state of Indiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Nick Hebert, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes Nick Hebert on winning a 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Nick Hebert.
