A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Marian Knights
soccer team on winning the Class 1-A state championship.

RESOLUTION No. _____
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Marian
Knights soccer team on winning the Class 1-A state championship.
Whereas, After nearly winning the state championship
against Providence last year, the lady Knights of Marian led
by coach Djamel Charmat defeated Providence 2-0 in this
year's redemption match;
Whereas, In contrast to last year, the Knights were able
to score early to win in regulation, thanks in part to goals
scored by D.J. Veldman and Shannon Hendricks;
Whereas, Marian's goalkeeper, Makaela Douglas,
and
Marian's defense were superb in their efforts to protect the
lead and shutout Providence's offense;
Whereas, Shannon Hendricks and Gabby Veldman, of the
Marian Knights, displayed great courage and determination
to return from injury and perform at a high level; and
Whereas, Star forward Gabby Veldman finished her
career as the all-time leading scorer for the Marian Knights
and a state champion: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The General Assembly congratulates the Lady
Knights for winning the Class 1-A state championship for soccer.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit
a copy of this resolution to Marian High School Principal Carl Loesch
and Lady Knights head coach Djamel Charmat.
