RESOLUTION No. _____

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Child Abuse Awareness Month and recognizing Holly's House for its work in support of child abuse prevention.

    Whereas, April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month;

    Whereas, Child Abuse Awareness Month is a time to recognize that we can each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in communities;

    Whereas, Child abuse presents numerous challenges for communities in trying to meet the immediate needs of children through foster care, counseling, and other family- based services. Additionally, research shows that when no intervention occurs, children who are abused are more likely to drop out of school, struggle with addiction, enter unhealthy relationships as adults, and become engaged in criminal activity;

    Whereas, During Child Abuse Awareness Month, Holly's House coordinates several awareness events to draw attention to child abuse and its effects on Southwestern Indiana families;

    Whereas, Holly's House is a non-residential Child &

Adult Advocacy Center located in Evansville that serves nine Southwest Indiana counties. The mission of Holly's House is to empower victims of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence by providing support, promoting justice, and preventing violence;

    Whereas, Holly's House gives victims a safe and comfortable place to report crimes while partnering with numerous agencies to ensure clients are linked with other community resources to support their safety and their healing ;

    Whereas, Holly's House has served over 1,800 children and adults since opening in September of 2008;

    Whereas, Additionally, Holly's House has educated over 8,500 children to date on how to protect themselves against predators through their program, "Think First & Stay Safe"; and

    Whereas, Organizations such as Holly's House are of vital importance to the advocacy and assistance of child abuse victims as well as important to communities in increasing public awareness of the need to ensure the safety and welfare of children: Therefore,
