support of child abuse prevention.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Child Abuse
Awareness Month and recognizing Holly's House for its work in
support of child abuse prevention.
Whereas, April is National Child Abuse Awareness
Month;
Whereas, Child Abuse Awareness Month is a time to
recognize that we can each play a part in promoting the
social and emotional well-being of children and families in
communities;
Whereas, Child abuse presents numerous challenges for
communities in trying to meet the immediate needs of
children through
foster care, counseling, and other family-
based services. Additionally, research shows that when no
intervention occurs, children who are abused are more likely
to drop out of school, struggle with addiction, enter
unhealthy relationships as adults, and become engaged in
criminal activity;
Whereas, During Child Abuse Awareness Month, Holly's
House coordinates several awareness events to draw
attention to child abuse and its effects on Southwestern
Indiana families;
Whereas, Holly's House is a non-residential Child &
Adult Advocacy Center located in Evansville that serves nine
Southwest Indiana counties. The mission of Holly's House is
to empower victims of child abuse, sexual assault, and
domestic violence by providing support, promoting justice,
and preventing violence;
Whereas, Holly's House gives victims a safe and
comfortable place to report crimes while partnering with
numerous agencies to ensure clients are linked with other
community resources to support their safety and their
healing
;
Whereas, Holly's House has served over 1,800 children
and adults since opening in September of 2008;
Whereas, Additionally, Holly's House has educated over
8,500 children to date on how to protect themselves against
predators through their program, "Think First & Stay Safe";
and
Whereas, Organizations such as Holly's House are of
vital importance to the advocacy and assistance of child
abuse victims as well as important to communities in
increasing public awareness of the need to ensure the safety
and welfare of children: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly recognizes Child
Abuse Awareness Month.
SECTION 2. The Indiana General Assembly recognizes Holly's
House for its dedication to child abuse awareness, advocacy, and
prevention.
SECTION 3. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Holly's House.
