    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Mark Hoffman on his retirement as head football coach for Valparaiso High School following 40 years of coaching.

    Whereas, Mark Hoffman has been the backbone of the Valparaiso High School football team for forty years. His coaching has inspired and motivated young players in the Vikings athletic program since 1972. Although Mark has chosen to step down as the football coach, he will remain involved as the high school's Athletic Director.

    Whereas, Boasting an impressive career coaching record of 237-153. Coach Hoffman has led the Vikings football team to two State Runners-Up, six Final Four Appearances, six Regional Championships, six Conference Championships, and a State Championship. The team has been nationally ranked four times during his tenure;

    Whereas, Mark Hoffman is a member of the Indiana Football Coaches Association, the American Football Coaches Association, the National Football Hall of Fame Foundation, the National Federation of Coaches, the Indiana Track and Cross Country Association, the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He also serves on the Indiana Football Coaches Association Board of Directors, the Indiana Football Hall of Fame

Committee, The Indiana Football Coaches Association All- State Board, and the Indianapolis Colts All-Academic Advisory Board. Mark is also chairman of the Region One Indiana Hall of Fame and the Indiana Football Coaches Association Service Awards;

    Whereas, Coach Hoffman was the originator of the Indiana football Coaches Association Recruiting Smoker and Service Awards. He also served on the Indiana High School Athletic Association Committee to restructure the state playoff system, and was the co-founder of the Region One Indiana Football Coaches Association College Recruiting Fair.

    Whereas, Among the numerous accolades he has earned, Mark Hoffman was presented the IFCA President's Award (1996), Head North All-Star Coach (1999-2011), 5A Coach of the Year (1985, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1997, 2000-2002, 2010), NFL Coach of the Week (2000, 2005, 2008, 2010), and was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2006;

    Whereas, Coach Hoffman had his own accomplishments as a starting player on the Andrean High School Team and Butler University Football Team. Mark provides elite coaching and has impressive ability to translate his knowledge of the sport to his players. It is for this reason that he has ushered 230 of his players onto college football teams, 42 of which accepted positions at Division One schools. Having Mark Hoffman as a football coach has proved to be an enormous gift to the Vikings football organization: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Mark Hoffman for his storied 40 year career as Valparaiso High School's football coach.
    SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to

transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mark Hoffman.
