    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Joseph Ruhl for being named the top science educator in the country by the National Science Teaching Association.

    Whereas, Joseph Ruhl teaches biology at Jefferson High School in Lafayette. An outstanding educator, Mr. Ruhl teaches courses in beginning biology, human genetics, and science research;
        
    Whereas, As the head of the science department, Joseph Ruhl is responsible for purposing the teaching schedule, tracking the budget, communicating professional development opportunities to teachers, and serving as a liaison between the teachers and the administration;

    Whereas, In order to remain current on teaching methods, Joseph frequently sharpens his skills by attending workshops and professional conventions;

    Whereas, Joseph's incorporation of multimedia in the classroom has proved to be an extremely effective learning tool for his students. Joseph has written numerous papers on this technique, and has educated other science teachers on the benefits of using multimedia tools for teaching through his presentations at conferences sponsored by various groups, including the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. and the National Association of Biology

Teachers;
    Whereas, Joseph was previously recognized with the Outstanding Biology Teacher of Indiana Award, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, and the Purdue University School of Science Distinguished Alumnus Award for Excellence in K-12 Teaching; and

    Whereas, Joseph Ruhl's passionate teaching style has ignited a love of science in many of his current and former students. In our increasingly complex technological world, ensuring high school students have sufficient knowledge of science is of ever-increasing importance: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Joseph Ruhl for being named the top science educator in the country by the National Science Teaching Association.
    SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Joseph Ruhl.
