    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the 175th anniversary of DePauw University .

    Whereas, On January 10, 1837, the Indiana Methodist Episcopal conference proposed a charter for a new "seminary of learning" which would later become known as DePauw University;

    Whereas, Generations of exceptionally talented students have since joined peers from across the nation and the world in attaining a quality liberal arts education from DePauw University;

    Whereas, Throughout its proud history, DePauw University's dedicated faculty members, who are devoted to teaching and recognized for their scholarship, encounter students in intentionally small settings which promote intellectual rigor and transformation;

    Whereas, The DePauw University School of Music, established in 1884, is the oldest institution for post- secondary music instruction in Indiana and one of the first created in the nation. The school produces musicians that enrich culture, arts, creative endeavors, and the quality of life on campus and throughout the country;

    Whereas, DePauw University has bridged its campus to

the world from the 1877 arrival of the University's first international students to its current international enrollment and study-abroad programs;

    Whereas, DePauw University's rich social tradition offers students extraordinary leadership opportunities marked by a culture of engagement in student organizations and service to others; and

    Whereas, DePauw University alumni, as enlightened citizens and leaders, are engaged at the forefront of their fields and meaningfully impact their communities, states, nations, and world: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly recognizes DePauw University on their 175th anniversary.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Brian Casey, President of DePauw University.
