    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the Museum Studies students at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.
    Whereas, On November 16, 2010, students from the IUPUI Museum Studies Program who were enrolled in the IUPUI Collections Care and Management graduate course, examined , measured, documented, and researched the more than 40 artworks in and around Indiana's State House;

    Whereas, Museum Studies at IUPUI prepares students to be self-reflective leaders in the museum field. The goal of the State House documentation project is to increase public awareness of the state's cultural heritage;

    Whereas, The pro gram is also designed to allow students to gain invaluable practical experience in assessing, researching, and cataloguing artworks in the world's most used online encyclopedia. The information will be accessible through Wikipedia and Flickr, which are two of the world's most cons ulted web pages for information and photographs;

    Whereas, T he graduate course is taught by Richard McCoy, Adjunct Instructor at IUPUI and Associate Conservator of Objects and Variable Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The objective of the course is to highlight the significance of the ma n y artworks at the State House and serve as a teaching tool for the mor e than 20 students in the

class;

    Whereas, Indiana's State House, a building of outstanding architectural beauty, has served as a center of civi c life in Indiana since 1888;

    Whereas, The artwork at the State House is among the oldest in the city. Indianapolis has the second largest number of memorials of any city in the United States, but little information is available online about these i mportant memorials and artworks;

    Whereas, T he students undertaking this project hope their work sparks others to act as public stewards of the city's impor tant collections of public art; and

    Whereas, T he IUPUI Museum Studies project will bring attention to the public art collection at the State House and bring to light information about the artists and the stories a ccompanying their creations: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly recognizes the Museum Studies students at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Richard McCoy, adjunct professor at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.
