RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Governor to proclaim
a day honoring community foundations.
Whereas, Throughout the years, community foundations
have been instrumental in connecting donors to the causes
they care most about;
Whereas, Community foundations help individuals,
families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations achieve
their charitable goals by offering tools and resources that
make giving easy and effective;
Whereas, Community foundations are local organizations
run and led by local people who have an in-depth knowledge
of the issues, opportunities, and resources that affect their
community, enabling them to help solve community
problems, while helping donors learn more about local needs
to make their giving as effective as possible;
Whereas, Community foundations have much lower
administrative costs than other charities and fund their
programs with the earnings from their assets, leaving the
underlying assets free to generate future income for future
programs;
Whereas, There are more than 650 community foundations
throughout the United States working to help the people and
organizations that need it most;
Whereas, In Indiana, Eli Lilly and Company has a long
history of giving back to the community; and
Whereas, Community foundations are created by and for
the people of a community, working together to help those in
need: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the Governor to proclaim Community Foundations Day in honor of all community foundations throughout the state.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Governor Daniels.
