Synopsis: Fire protection territories. Provides that a fire protection territory may: (1) purchase personal property and hold title to the property in the name of the territory; and (2) dispose of surplus personal property held in the name of the territory. Requires the participating units of the fire protection territory to designate a purchasing agent for the territory.

SENATE BILL No. 545



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning local government.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 36-8-19-8.1; (13)IN0545.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 36-8-19-8.1 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2013]: Sec. 8.1. (a) A fire protection territory may:
        (1) purchase personal property for the use of the fire protection territory by complying with IC 5-22;
        (2) hold title to personal property in the name of the fire protection territory; and
        (3) dispose of surplus personal property held in the name of the fire protection territory by complying with IC 5-22-22.
    (b) A fire protection territory is the purchasing agency for the fire protection territory for purposes of IC 5-22. The legislative bodies of the participating units of the fire protection territory shall adopt identical ordinances or resolutions designating a purchasing agent for the fire protection territory.
