        A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring James F. Davis.
    

    Whereas, Born on January 20, 1922, James F. Davis spent his first four years in a small town outside South Bend;

    Whereas, His parents, Allen Davis and Eileen Carr Davis, moved to Mt. Vernon when Mr. Davis began working at the Tile Factory;

    Whereas, After graduating from Mt. Vernon Senior High School, James Davis joined the Marines and soon left for boot camp;

    Whereas, James Davis was sent to the American Samoa and British Samoa before landing on Guadalcanal;



    Whereas, Davis and the rest of the Third Marine Division relieved the troops from the First Marine Division who had been on Guadalcanal for six months with no ammunition or naval support;

    Whereas, James Davis was also stationed at Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima, where he witnessed Marines raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi;

    Whereas, While serving on Guam, James Davis met the American Indian Marines who came to be known as "Wind Talkers" due to the fact that their code created to communicate with other soldiers was never broken;

    Whereas, James met and married his wife Idella Seifert in 1946 and together they have three children - Larry, Lonna, and Laird;

    Whereas, James Davis was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone for 38 years;

    Whereas, James also founded Posey County Realty to sell the new homes that he and his father built on the farmland that surrounded his farmhouse and barns;

    Whereas, Active in the political arena in Mt. Vernon, James Davis ran unsuccessfully for mayor but did serve as councilman-at-large and was a Republican precinct committeeman for many years;

    Whereas, James Davis is active in the community as a member of the Mt. Vernon Lions Club, the Calvary Baptist Church, and the Methodist Church, and is a former member of the Greater Mt. Vernon Association; and

    Whereas, James F. Davis was born a Hoosier and chose to become a Marine, a husband, and a great father: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the many accomplishments and sacrifices made by James F. Davis in the service of his country and his state and in living his life as a loving husband and father.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to James F. Davis and his family.
