A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Tony Lux on the
occasion of his retirement.
Whereas, Tony Lux, Superintendent of the Merrillville
Community School Corporation, will be retiring effective June
30, 2013;
Whereas, Tony Lux has been employed by the Merrillville
Community School Corporation for 29 years and has served as
superintendent for 19 years;
Whereas, During his time at Merrillville Community School Corporation, Tony Lux has accomplished much, but he is especially proud of the school district's commitment to and success in demonstrating that diversity can work;
Whereas, Under the guidance of Tony Lux, the school corporation's ISTEP-Plus performance increased in math and in practically every student subgroup at almost every grade level;
Whereas, In recognition of his many achievements and
accomplishments, Tony Lux was selected two times by members
of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents as
District I Superintendent of the Year;
Whereas, Tony Lux served as assistant superintendent for
curriculum and personnel before being named superintendent
and was a teacher, coach, and principal at public and
parochial schools in Illinois before coming to Merrillville; and
Whereas, Tony Lux has provided invaluable leadership and
guidance to the Merrillville Community School Corporation
throughout his career as an educator, and this leadership and
guidance will be greatly missed: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives expresses its deepest gratitude to Tony Lux for his years of dedicated service to the children of our state and wishes him happiness in his retirement.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Tony Lux.
