A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council
to assign to an appropriate study committee the topics of work
sharing unemployment benefits and the establishment of a work
sharing unemployment insurance program.
Whereas, During these times of economic downturn,
employers may be forced to reduce worker hours to help keep
all workers employed;
Whereas, Work sharing programs help reduce the ranks of
unemployed Hoosiers; and
Whereas, If a work sharing benefit payable to an employee for work performed under a work sharing plan is established, the work sharing benefit should be equal to the employee's
unemployment benefit reduced by a percentage that is
equivalent to the number of hours by which the employee's
work hours are reduced under the work sharing program:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to assign to an appropriate study committee the topics of work sharing unemployment benefits and the establishment of a work sharing unemployment insurance program.
