A HOUSE RESOLUTION to recognize and congratulate
the Child Advocates of Indianapolis for receiving the National
Inclusion Award from the National Court Appointed Special
Advocate Association.
Whereas, Child Advocates of Indianapolis is the non-profit
group chosen by the courts of Marion County to act as the
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and
neglected children, its volunteers and professional staff both
working tirelessly to supervise the cases of more than 5000
Marion County children per year through advocacy, fact-
finding, evaluation and mediation; and,
Whereas, faced with a disproportionately high share of African American children in foster care in Marion County, as well as a wide racial disparity in access to child welfare services, the Child Advocates of Indianapolis have placed the correction of this injustice at the center of their priorities by
implementing a forward-thinking and challenging inclusiveness
and diversity plan, partnering with the Juvenile Court and
other institutions to further its effect, doubling their number of
African American volunteers, adding sixteen African American
staff members, and reducing their largely African American
waiting list of children by more than six hundred; and,
Whereas, for their dedication to the present and future
well-being of abused and neglected children of all
backgrounds, the Child Advocates have been honored by the
National CASA Association with its National Inclusion Award
at the Association's 30th annual conference in Chicago in
March, well-deserved national recognition of the Child
Advocates' many efforts: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives officially
recognizes and congratulates the Child Advocates for their
achievements, thanks them sincerely on behalf of its members and on
behalf of the citizens of Indiana for their tireless work for the sake of
society's most vulnerable members, and wishes them every success in
their future projects.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy
of this resolution to the Child Advocates of Indianapolis.
