A RESOLUTION honoring the Evansville Memorial High
School girls basketball team.
Whereas, The Evansville Memorial High School girls
basketball team captured its first Class 3A basketball state
championship with a 58-50 overtime win over Benton Central;
Whereas, Memorial's march to victory began when the
team came from behind to tie the game at 41-41 with 37
seconds left in regulation play;
Whereas, The Tigers scored the first seven points in the
overtime period and never relinquished their lead;
Whereas, The hard fighting Tigers outscored Benton
Central 17-9 in the overtime period;
Whereas, The Tigers finished the season with an
outstanding 28-1 record; and
Whereas, The team's state championship and outstanding
season record are the consequence of a total team effort, and
each member of the team, the managers, and the coaching staff
should be praised for superior performance and team spirit:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Evansville Memorial High School girls basketball team on its state championship and wishes the players continued success in all their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to all team members, student managers, assistant coaches Monica Auker,Whitney Jenkins, Thom Endress, and Joan Miller, head coach Bruce Dockery, executive director Ken Schultheis, and principal Gwen Godsey.
