A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Winchester
Community High School Band, Winchester, Indiana.
Whereas, The Winchester Community High School band,
known as "The Force", can truly call itself Indiana's Best Band
after securing its second consecutive win at the Indiana State
Fair Band Day contest;
Whereas, "The Force" has a long, rich heritage of success
with 11 total state championships (eight in Indiana State School
Music Association field shows and three at the Indiana State
Fair) and 12 state runner-up titles;
Whereas, Winchester Community High School band's show, entitled "If It Is To Be . . . It Is Up To Me", also won first place
in the preliminary class awards for Class AAA;
Whereas, In addition to the participation in the State Fair
Band Day Contests, the Winchester Community High School
Band has participated in many nationally known parades,
including the Tulip Festival Parade in Holland, Michigan, the
Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade, the Gimble's Thanksgiving
Day Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Orange Bowl
Parade in Miami, Florida, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day
Parade in New York City, the Walt Disney World Magic
Kingdom Parade in Orlando, Florida, and the Kentucky Derby
Parade in Louisville, Kentucky;
Whereas, The Winchester Community High School band
members credit their success to Director Douglas Fletcher;
Whereas, Douglas Fletcher has amassed 12 championships
at four different schools between 1989 and 2012 and holds the
record for the most Band Day wins by an individual; and
Whereas, It is fitting that the accomplishments of "The
Force" be given additional recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Winchester Community High School band on its 2012 victory in the Indiana State Fair Band Day contest and wishes the members continued success in all future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the members of the Winchester Community High School Band, Assistant Director Amy Fletcher, Director Douglas Fletcher, Principal Tom Osborn, Assistant Principal Karla Reed, and Randolph Central School Corporation Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Hinshaw.
