RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the DePauw University women's basketball team.

    Whereas, The DePauw University women's basketball team won its second National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III national title in its history with a 69-51 victory against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Hope College's DeVos Fieldhouse;

    Whereas, The championship victory marked the 34th win of the season for DePauw and concluded just the seventh undefeated season in Division III women's basketball history;

    Whereas, This title win marked the 112th win for the players in the senior class - a new program record;

    Whereas, The Tigers jumped out to a 25-5 lead in the first 11 and a half minutes and maintained a lead of at least 11 points for the rest of the game, leading by as many as 24 late in the second half;

    Whereas, The Tigers shot 61.2 percent from the field in the game;

    Whereas, Senior guard Kate Walker led the Tigers offensively, scoring 17 points, while senior forward Ellie Pearson added 14 points and a team-high five rebounds and sophomore Savannah Trees added 16 points;

    Whereas, Kate Walker was named to the all-tournament

team and Ellie Pearson was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player;

    Whereas, Team members credit their success to head coach Kris Huffman, who has amassed a 466-102 record in her 20 seasons at DePauw University and was been named the D3hoops.com Coach of the Year; and

    Whereas, Athletic accomplishments such as these deserve special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the DePauw University women's basketball team on its National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III national title and wishes the players, coaches, and managers continued success in all their future endeavors.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to each team member, team managers, head coach Kris Huffman, assistant coaches Mary Smith, Dana Ferguson, and Doug Miller, athletic director Stevie Baker-Watson, and President Brian W. Casey.
