A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Esther Uduehi
on being named a Rhodes Scholar
Whereas, the Rhodes Scholarship is awarded annually to a small
number of students in the United States and around the world, who
receive full tuition and a stipend to undertake graduate studies at
Oxford University; and,
Whereas, the Rhodes is widely recognized as one of the world's
most prestigious scholarships; and,
Whereas, Esther Uduehi, a senior studying mathematics and
chemistry at Indiana University in Bloomington, is one of only 32
Americans to have been awarded the scholarship in the past year; and,
Whereas, Ms. Uduehi is a first-generation American, whose
parents emigrated from Nigeria in the year of her birth; and,
Whereas, she has already demonstrated a long record of success
and achievement, having been named valedictorian of F.J. Reitz High
School in Evansville, a National Achievement Scholar, and a Senator
Richard G. Lugar Scholar, and is the recipient of the Herman B Wells
Scholarship from Indiana University; and,
Whereas, she plans to use her time at Oxford to further cancer
research, particularly in the field of drug synthesis; Therefore:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates
Esther Uduehi on her long and impressive record of academic
achievement, and especially on her being awarded a Rhodes
Scholarship in 2010, wishes her well in her future endeavors, and
thanks her for representing her home state and her alma mater so
admirably both in United States and abroad.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Esther Uduehi.
