A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Martinsville High School Spell Bowl team and the East Middle School Spell Bowl team.

RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Martinsville High
School Spell Bowl team and the East Middle School Spell Bowl team.
Whereas, The people of Indiana take great pride in the
accomplishments of their children;
Whereas, The Martinsville High School Spell Bowl team
took first place in the 2011 Spell Bowl State Finals at Purdue
University;
Whereas, The high school team placed first in Class 1 with
a perfect score of 90, beating runner-up Penn High School
by one point;
Whereas, The Martinsville spellers have finished first in the
Spell Bowl State Finals nine times and placed in one of the
top two spots for the last 18 consecutive years;
Whereas, The East Middle School Spell Bowl team placed
second in Class 2 of the 2011 Spell Bowl State Finals, losing
by just two points to Thomas Jefferson Middle School;
Whereas, Even though the team consisted of only three
veteran members, the team members handled themselves
exceptionally well;
Whereas, This year is the seventh time the East Middle School team has been runner-up in the Spell Bowl State Finals and the 14th time the team has competed at the state level;
Whereas, The members of both teams and their coaches have worked long and hard to achieve this honor; and
Whereas, Excellence and effort in the field of academics
deserves special recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
Martinsville High School Spell Bowl team and the East Middle School
Spell Bowl team on their recent successes and wishes the teams
continued success in future competitions.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to high school team
members Allison Cox, Christa Cheatham, Steven Fish, Evan Like,
Danielle McDougal, Jake Mock, Isaac Mock, Michele Poindexter,
Stephanie Schneck, Casey Whitaker, and Olivia Wooten; middle school
team members Ali Wilt, Eli Mock, Zackary Swoboda, Olivia Herbert,
Kaitlin Gephart, Libby Scott, Joseph McGuire, and Larry Kresse,
coaches Wayne Babbitt and Jenny Babbitt, Martinsville High School
principal Don Alkire, East Middle School principal Eric Bowlen, and
Superintendent Ron Furniss.
