RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Lambert Elbert.

    Whereas, Corydon barber Lambert Elbert was recently presented with an award first given to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802;

    Whereas, Lambert Elbert was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor by Sidy Diallo, the Deputy Consul General of France in Chicago, and received a letter of thanks for his valor from French President Nicolas Sarkozy;

    Whereas, The Legion of Honor is the highest honor that can be bestowed on those who perform heroic deeds for France;

    Whereas, In the past 208 years, the Legion of Honor has been bestowed upon approximately 10,000 Americans including General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General Douglas MacArthur;

    Whereas, Eighty-eight year old Lambert Elbert served as a driver of a five-soldier tank in "C" Company, 735th Tank Battalion, 26th Infantry Division, during his service with the United States Army from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of T/4 Sergeant;

    Whereas, Lambert Elbert drove a tank in the Battle of the Bulge and fought in five different European countries, for which he was awarded two Purple Hearts and five campaign stars; and



    Whereas, Lambert Elbert's service is an extraordinary example of American bravery in the face of great danger and deserves special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the great honor bestowed on Lambert Elbert for his heroic actions during World War II and thanks him for his service to our nation.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Lambert Elbert and his family.
