HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No.
________

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the 1961-1962 Evansville Benjamin Bosse High School men's basketball team.

    Whereas, The Bulldogs of Evansville Benjamin Bosse High School were crowned state high school basketball champions for the 1961-1962 season with a dramatic 84-81 win over East Chicago Washington High School in the title game at Butler Fieldhouse;

    Whereas, The Bulldogs won the '62 title in the first year of Jim Myers's tenure as head coach, continually motivated and encouraged to become better athletes and better men by Coach Myers, a tough-minded but caring veteran of the Pacific Theater of the Second World War;

    Whereas, Four of the Bulldogs' starting five went on to play for Division I universities, with several Indiana schools among them, including Indiana University and Valparaiso;

    Whereas, Two of the Bulldogs' starters have been inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, forward Gary Grieger in 2007, and guard Jerry Southwood in 2011;

    Whereas, The strength of the Bulldogs' bench was just as integral to the squad's championship season, with Jerry Southwood recalling that their success rested on one fact,

that, "in a word, it was a team: T-E-A-M";

    Whereas, On the road to the title game in Indianapolis, the Bulldogs demonstrated all of their skill and endurance in an impressive string of victories over North Posey High School (92-56), Reitz High School (68-57), Rex Mundi High School (57-54), North High School (88-71), Fort Branch High School (76-61), Castle High School (84-53), Jasper High School (70-68), Seymour High School (77-57), and Madison High School (79-75), before moving on to defeat East Chicago Washington for the championship;

    Whereas, The Bulldogs' dominating 24-2 season was only achieved through the hard work and dedication of every player on the team and their coaches, including Eric Sullivan (guard), Bob Adams (guard), Charles Wey (guard), David Riggs (guard), Bob Guenther (center), Jerry Southwood (guard), Gary Grieger (forward), Jerry Polley (forward), Charles Given (forward), John Wilson (guard), Ken Rakow (center), Gene Lockyear (forward), Alfred "Al" Buck (assistant coach), Jerry Canterbury (assistant coach), and Jim Myers (head coach); and,

    Whereas, March 17th, 2012, will mark the 50th anniversary of the Bulldogs' title victory over East Chicago Washington: Therefore,
