A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Congresswoman
Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona.
Whereas, Gabrielle Giffords has represented the 8th District of
Arizona in the United States House of Representatives since 2007; and,
Whereas, on Saturday, January 8th, Rep. Giffords was meeting
publicly with a group of her constituents when a gunman opened fire,
first on her, then on members of the public, in a vicious attack that
claimed six lives and gravely injured the Congresswoman and thirteen
others; and,
Whereas, Rep. Giffords continues to struggle for her life; and,
Whereas, all public servants and all members of the public must
abhor violence committed for the sake of political ends, and affirm that
violence and threats of violence have no place in our political lives;
and,
Whereas, federal and state officials across the country have joined
the citizens of Rep. Giffords' district in mourning the loss of those
killed, offering comfort to the injured and bereaved, and honoring Rep.
Giffords' dedicated service to her community, her state and her
country: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly, on behalf of the
citizens of Indiana, expresses the deepest sympathy of its members to
the family of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and to the citizens of
her district, and offers its sincerest condolences to the bereaved.
