Synopsis: Family friendly school designation. Establishes the Indiana
family friendly school designation program. Requires the department
of education, in consultation with statewide organizations that link
family engagement to student achievement, to develop the program.
Provides that a school may voluntarily request an assessment of
parental involvement by the department. Provides that the department
may designate a school as a family friendly school if the department
determines that the school has established parental engagement
practices that increase parental involvement and foster high student
achievement.
Effective: July 1, 2012.

Chapter 6. Indiana Family Friendly School Designation
Sec. 1. (a) The department, in consultation with statewide organizations whose mission is to link family engagement to student achievement, shall develop the Indiana family friendly school designation program.
(b) The program must allow a school to voluntarily request from the department an assessment for the purpose of evaluating and improving parental involvement in the school.
(c) The department may designate a school as an Indiana family friendly school if the department determines that the school has established parental engagement practices that increase parental involvement and foster high student achievement.
(d) The department shall develop rubrics or standards to evaluate a school's parental involvement and to award the Indiana
family friendly designation to schools.
Sec. 2. The department shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to
implement this chapter.
