2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of David Root of Sherman, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | September 7, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, David Root was born in DeKalb to James and Beverly | ||||||
6 | Root on February 23, 1974; he graduated from Hampshire High | ||||||
7 | School in 1992; he earned his bachelor's degree from Western | ||||||
8 | Illinois University in 1997 and his master's degree from the | ||||||
9 | University of Illinois at Springfield; he attained his | ||||||
10 | Superintendent Endorsement from Illinois State University; he | ||||||
11 | married Julie Smith in Decatur on August 5, 2000; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, David Root served as Superintendent of the | ||||||
13 | Williamsville-Sherman School District since 2007; he worked as | ||||||
14 | an administrator in the Greenview and Athens School Districts | ||||||
15 | from 2002 through 2007; he taught and coached in Williamsville | ||||||
16 | prior to his administrative service; and

17 | WHEREAS, David Root received the University of Illinois at | ||||||
18 | Springfield Administrators' Round Table Citation for | ||||||
19 | Distinguished Professional Service (2009-2010), where he | ||||||
20 | served as President; in 2015, he was awarded Superintendent of | ||||||
21 | Distinction from the Illinois Association of School | ||||||
22 | Administrators Abe Lincoln Region and the Superintendent of the |

1 | Year from Horace Mann; he was honored with an Award of | ||||||
2 | Excellence from the Villages of Sherman and Williamsville in | ||||||
3 | 2015; and

4 | WHEREAS, David Root was a dedicated family man and enjoyed | ||||||
5 | watching his children participate in their activities; he was a | ||||||
6 | talented musician and athlete and had the unique ability to be | ||||||
7 | the funniest person in the room; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, David Root was preceded in death by his father, | ||||||
9 | James Root; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, David Root is survived by his wife, Julie; his | ||||||
11 | children, Mia and Dalton; his mother, Beverly; his brother, | ||||||
12 | Darren (Kim) Root; his sisters, Dawn (Steve) McGrath, Darla | ||||||
13 | (Hank) Gunn, Debbie (Deron) Rueff, and Dyan Lausas; his father | ||||||
14 | and mother-in-law, David and Susan Smith; his sisters-in-law, | ||||||
15 | Janet Smith, Jennifer (Andy) Smith-Multerer, and Colleen | ||||||
16 | Smith; his brother-in-law, Kevin (Sara) Smith; and his nieces | ||||||
17 | and nephews, Carson and Morgan Root, Chris and Nick McGrath, | ||||||
18 | Kevin, Kyle, Kelly, and Katie McCarthy, Mitchel and Elaina | ||||||
19 | Gunn, Jackson, Taylor, and Grant Rueff, Brittney Lausas, and | ||||||
20 | Ethan and Max Smith; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

2 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
