2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Richard G. Nelson of Colona, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 9, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard Nelson was born in Rock Island to Oscar | ||||||
6 | and Lillie M. (Heflin) Nelson on May 22, 1925; he served in the | ||||||
7 | United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II; he | ||||||
8 | married Dorothy Daniels in Princeton on January 31, 1953; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Richard Nelson worked for 35 years as an inspector | ||||||
10 | for John Deere Harvester; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Richard Nelson was a member of Green River United | ||||||
12 | Methodist Church; he was a former President of the Lions Club | ||||||
13 | of Colona and a former 4th Ward alderman in Colona; he had a | ||||||
14 | passion for race horses, which he raced locally and in Chicago; | ||||||
15 | and

16 | WHEREAS, Richard Nelson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
17 | parents; his sister, Fanchon Knaack; his twin brother in | ||||||
18 | infancy, Robert Nelson; and his brother, Michael Nelson; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Richard Nelson is survived by his wife of 63 | ||||||
20 | years, Dorothy; his children, Diane Baird, Dayle (Gary) |

1 | Sullivan, Dawn (Tom) Jatczak, and Daniel Nelson; five | ||||||
2 | grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mercedes | ||||||
3 | Perry; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Nelson; and his | ||||||
4 | brother-in-law, John Knaack; therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | Richard G. Nelson, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
8 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
9 | further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Richard Nelson as an expression of | ||||||
12 | our deepest sympathy.
