| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Pastor Henry L. Woods Sr., who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 28, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was born in Birmingham, Alabama to | ||||||
6 | Monroe and O'neal Woods on December 8, 1953; he was the sixth | ||||||
7 | of eight children and was educated in the Jefferson County and | ||||||
8 | Marengo County School Systems; he committed to his faith at Mt. | ||||||
9 | Calvary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, where he served | ||||||
10 | in the youth choir; his family later relocated to Demopolis, | ||||||
11 | Alabama, where he joined the True Vine Baptist Church and | ||||||
12 | continued to serve faithfully; in 1972, he relocated to | ||||||
13 | Waukegan, Illinois; in 1985, he joined the Christian Valley | ||||||
14 | Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where he was an | ||||||
15 | ordained Deacon and served as a Vice Chairman; he was licensed | ||||||
16 | and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel by Pastor Clarence | ||||||
17 | Clarke in 1994; and

18 | WHEREAS, During his years in the ministry, Pastor Woods | ||||||
19 | served as the Director of Youth Ministry and as the Assistant | ||||||
20 | Pastor; he was installed as the Pastor of the church on October | ||||||
21 | 20, 2002; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was educated at the College of Lake |

1 | County, McKinley Theological Seminary, Carver Baptist Bible | ||||||
2 | College, the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., The Biblical | ||||||
3 | Exposition Conference, and various workshops and seminars; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was preceded in death by his | ||||||
5 | grandmother, Agnos "Mrs. Nan" Killings; his parents; his | ||||||
6 | brother, Joe Lee Woods; and his granddaughter, MyeAngel Booker; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Pastor Woods is survived by his daughter, Lisha | ||||||
9 | Woods; his sons, Henry L. and Darrell (Tiffany) Woods; his | ||||||
10 | sisters, Mary Gh'Rael, Dorothy (Freddie) Armstead, Pinkie | ||||||
11 | (Lady) Marrow; and Marie Woods; his brothers, Therman (Helen | ||||||
12 | Tyler) and James Woods; his grandchildren, Kiara Booker, Layka | ||||||
13 | McQuitery, Jason Booker Jr., Amaya Booker, Kemari Woods, and | ||||||
14 | Zoe Woods; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews; | ||||||
15 | therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Pastor Henry L. Woods Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
19 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
20 | further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Pastor Woods as an expression of our |
