| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of the Rev. Joseph Marquis Wilcox, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on October 18, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was born in Mansfield, Ohio on | ||||||
6 | September 23, 1923 to J. Dale and Edith (nee House) Wilcox; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1941 and from | ||||||
8 | Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in December of | ||||||
9 | 1945, with a major in philosophy; he married Emily Rees Marsh | ||||||
10 | on May 4, 1946, and he received his Bachelor of Divinity from | ||||||
11 | the Oberlin College Graduate School of Theology in Oberlin, | ||||||
12 | Ohio in 1949; and

13 | WHEREAS, After graduating from seminary, Rev. Wilcox | ||||||
14 | served as youth pastor at Walnut Hills Christian Church in | ||||||
15 | Cincinnati, Ohio; he moved to First Christian Church in | ||||||
16 | Bellaire, Ohio in 1952, to Parma Christian Church in Parma, | ||||||
17 | Ohio in 1955, and then to First Christian Church in Waukegan, | ||||||
18 | where he served as pastor for 12 years; and

19 | WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was an active member of the Chicago | ||||||
20 | Area Disciple's regional fellowship; in 1975, he received his | ||||||
21 | Chaplain's Certificate and became the chaplain at Westlake | ||||||
22 | Hospital in Melrose Park, where he served for 12 and a half |

1 | years; following that, he served as chaplain at the Winchester | ||||||
2 | House in Libertyville for 9 years; he then returned to Gurnee | ||||||
3 | and served as minster at Gurnee Community Church for 3 years, | ||||||
4 | where the congregation named him pastor-emeritus; and

5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
6 | and his brother, John David Wilcox; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox is survived by his wife, Emily Rees; | ||||||
8 | their 3 children, Emily Wilcox Denesha (Mike), Amy Wilcox-Owens | ||||||
9 | (Rick), and Joseph Dale Wilcox (Jean); his 7 grandchildren; his | ||||||
10 | 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Eleanor Wilcox Lime; | ||||||
11 | therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | the Rev. Joseph Marquis Wilcox, and extend our sincere | ||||||
15 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
16 | him; and be it further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Rev. Wilcox as an expression of our | ||||||
19 | deepest sympathy.
