1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Goldie Hershman of Joliet, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on September 21, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman studied at Northwestern | ||||||
6 | University and at Chicago Teachers College, where she received | ||||||
7 | her master's degree in Education; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman began teaching in Chicago and | ||||||
9 | Maywood; she relocated with her husband to Joliet and taught at | ||||||
10 | Marycrest School for 23 years; she also taught Sunday school at | ||||||
11 | the synagogue for many years and tutored and mentored World War | ||||||
12 | II survivors who came to the Will County area; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman has been an active member of
the | ||||||
14 | Silver Cross Celebrity Spotlight Visitation and Aid Society, | ||||||
15 | the Women of Rotary, the Joliet Education Association, the | ||||||
16 | Jewish
Congregation Sisterhood and Hadassah, and has been a | ||||||
17 | Community Trustee of Silver Cross Hospital; in 2007, she was
| ||||||
18 | recognized with Lewis University's DeLaSalle Award; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman was preceded in death by her | ||||||
20 | husband of 56 years, Rabbi Morris M. Hershman; and

1 | WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman is the loving mother of Josh | ||||||
2 | (Kerry) Hershman and Naomi Hershman and the devoted
grandmother | ||||||
3 | of Jenny (Blake) Contant and Ben Hershman; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | Goldie Hershman, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
7 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
8 | further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Goldie Hershman as an expression of | ||||||
11 | our deepest sympathy.
