1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John S. "Jack" Shales of Elgin, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 26, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jack Shales was born in Elgin on November 13, | ||||||
6 | 1930; he married Marlene Kane, his high school sweetheart, in | ||||||
7 | 1954; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Jack Shales served in Korea with the United States | ||||||
9 | Marine Corp from 1951 until 1953; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jack Shales began working at Illinois Hydraulic | ||||||
11 | Construction Co. in 1954; after 27 years with Illinois | ||||||
12 | Hydraulic, he co-founded the construction company | ||||||
13 | Seagren/Shales, Inc.; in 2001, he was a founding partner of | ||||||
14 | Shales McNutt Construction, where he remained a valuable asset | ||||||
15 | throughout his life; he always found ways to make each of his | ||||||
16 | employees feel valued and appreciated; and

17 | WHEREAS, Jack Shales loved the Elgin community and was | ||||||
18 | involved in many civic and charitable organizations; he was a | ||||||
19 | prolific fundraiser and was involved in the United Way of Elgin | ||||||
20 | campaigns for more than 60 consecutive years; at the time of | ||||||
21 | his passing, he was actively raising money for the Elgin |

1 | YMCA-owned Camp Edwards; his desire to "give back" has | ||||||
2 | benefitted countless lives; he was a member of Cornerstone | ||||||
3 | United Methodist Church in Plato Center, where he enjoyed | ||||||
4 | participating in the Corinthians class; and

5 | WHEREAS, Jack Shales is survived by his wife, Marlene; his | ||||||
6 | children, Michael (Trecia) Shales, Kristin (Doug) Durham, | ||||||
7 | Heidi (Jeff) Baudry, and John (Shelly) Shales; his | ||||||
8 | grandchildren, Anna (Frank) Machniak, Gwen Shales (Kyle | ||||||
9 | Johnson), Leah (Dan) Roe, Jack F. Shales, Raven and Hope | ||||||
10 | Shales, Kyle and Jesse (Sabrina) Durham, Zak and Alec Baudry, | ||||||
11 | Sydney, Matthew, Ellen, and Jake Shales; and his | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren, Asher and Etta Johnson, Lillian and | ||||||
13 | Timothy Machniak, and Baby Roe (due this summer); therefore, be | ||||||
14 | it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | John S. "Jack" Shales and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Jack Shales as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
