SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Opal Lee (Grubbs) Werenski, who passed
away on June 10, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Opal Werenski was born in Kentucky in 1945 to
Wilma and Arnold Grubbs; her family moved to Illinois when she
was a child, and Waukegan became her home for the next 45
years; she married Steve Werenski in 1964, and as a young
married couple, they spent time living in Europe when Steve was
in the U.S. Army; and
WHEREAS, Opal Werenski was a cosmetologist and owned her
own business, Opal's Hair Design, for 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Opal Werenski was an avid golfer and loved her
weekends spent at Bonnie Brook with dear friends; she enjoyed
being surrounded by friends and family, celebrating life's
milestones, often in her own home which became a second home to
so many; and
WHEREAS, Opal Werenski was preceded in death by her
husband, Steve; her siblings, Roscoe, Louise, Jerry, Larry, and
David; and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Opal Werenski is survived by her children, Heather
(Tom) Sternberg and Kristina (Eric) Lyons; her grandchildren,
Athena, Tommy, and Lucas; her siblings, Eunice Schlegel and Ron
Grubbs; and numerous other family members and friends;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Opal Lee (Grubbs) Werenski and extend our sincere condolences
to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Opal Werenski as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
