| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Larry Chappelle Thomas, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on September 2, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas was born to Faith Verdine McMichael | ||||||
6 | and Alfred Thomas in Chicago on December 19, 1951; he attended | ||||||
7 | various elementary schools and then Marshall High School; he | ||||||
8 | married Marlita Thomas on September 23, 2003; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas began working with his stepfather in | ||||||
10 | the construction industry at the age of 17; he became an expert | ||||||
11 | bricklayer and tuck pointer before retiring in 2013; after | ||||||
12 | retirement, he went to work for Monument of Faith Evangelistic | ||||||
13 | Church, serving as a member of its Security Force until 2018; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas was a member of the same church for | ||||||
16 | over 20 years, where he sang in the choir and was a member of | ||||||
17 | the Praise Team; he became a member of the Church On Fire | ||||||
18 | International in October 2021; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas and his wife sang at different | ||||||
20 | churches, weddings, and other venues, including singing the | ||||||
21 | "Star Spangled Banner" for Dr. Mildred C. Harris at the God |

1 | First Ministries Heavenly Breakfast in May 2019; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas loved reading and singing; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas was preceded in death by his mother; | ||||||
4 | his stepfather, George Preston; his aunt, Dorothy Lambert; his | ||||||
5 | son, Shon London; and his stepson, Norman Smith Jr.; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Larry Thomas is survived by his wife; his uncle, | ||||||
7 | James McMichael; his aunt, Betty Jo Collins; his cousin, | ||||||
8 | Brandon Collins; his stepbrother, Johnny Green; his daughter, | ||||||
9 | Shanna (Joseph) Minors Brantley; his stepdaughters, Shania | ||||||
10 | (Lexis) White and Christina (Karl) Smith Williams; his | ||||||
11 | stepsons, Nathanael Stubbs and George Stubbs; his | ||||||
12 | grandchildren, Lashandra Davis, Joseph Brantley, and Musiq | ||||||
13 | Brantley; his great-granddaughter, Solora Davis; his | ||||||
14 | step-grandchildren, Stephon White, Stephen White, Ariah White, | ||||||
15 | and Angel Smith; his Church on Fire International family; his | ||||||
16 | Monument of Faith Evangelistic Church family; and a host of | ||||||
17 | other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Larry Chappelle Thomas and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
21 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
