SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy Loy Lyon Pogue of Godfrey, who
4passed away on December 13, 2017; and
5 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue was born in Carey, Ohio to John and
6Helen (Whitlock) Loy on December 1, 1925; she graduated from
7Findlay High School in Ohio and then Depauw University in
8Greencastle, Indiana in 1947; she studied psychology at Indiana
9University and married the Reverend Dr. Richard Lyon in 1948;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue earned her pilots license and was an
12accomplished organist; she loved classical music, playing
13bridge, and doing crossword puzzles; she cooked amazing chicken
14livers and onions; she was quick to correct the grammar and
15table manners of her children, and sometimes others; she spent
16her winters in Naples, Florida for 46 years; and
17 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue was a member of the Junior League of
18Alton, Illinois State Chapter of P.E.O., and served as a deacon
19at First Presbyterian Church of Alton; she relished her many
20foreign adventures with Richard and friends; and
21 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue married Joe H. Pogue in 2003 after

1the passing of her husband; they enjoyed traveling the world
2and having an active social life; and
3 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue was preceded in death by her
4daughter, Mary Lyon, and her first husband, Richard Lyon; and
5 WHEREAS, Dorothy Pogue is survived by her husband, Joe; her
6children, the Reverend Dr. Susan Lyon (Dr. Tom Hudson), Dr.
7John Lyon, and Sally Lyon (Chris Pfeiffer); and eight
8grandchildren, Thomas, David, and Stephen Hudson, Taylor,
9Rebecca, and Jessica Lyon, and Ellie and Ned Pfeiffer;
10therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Dorothy Loy Lyon Pogue, and extend our sincere condolences to
14her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dorothy Pogue as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
