2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Ollie Ray "Ozzie" Phelps of Rock | ||||||
4 | Island, who passed away on September 2, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps was born to Ollie and Mary Elizabeth | ||||||
6 | Purvis Phelps in Davenport, Iowa on November 16, 1930; he | ||||||
7 | served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy; he married Shirley | ||||||
8 | Love, and they had one daughter, Debra, before she preceded | ||||||
9 | him in death; he later married Ellen Clayton at St. Ambrose | ||||||
10 | Catholic Church in Milan on June 30, 1967; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps worked as a supervisor at Eagle | ||||||
12 | Foods in Milan for 30 years; in retirement, he dedicated the | ||||||
13 | next 20 years towards taking care of St. Ambrose Catholic | ||||||
14 | Church in Milan; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic | ||||||
16 | Church in Milan, where he served in many different capacities; | ||||||
17 | he was also a proud advocate and supporter of the Alleman High | ||||||
18 | School Booster Club; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps enjoyed attending Allean High School | ||||||
20 | football games with friends; he loved spending time with his | ||||||
21 | family, especially his grandchildren; and

1 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents; his first wife, Shirley; his daughter, Linda Johnson; | ||||||
3 | his grandson, "Little" Maynard Johnson; his two brothers, | ||||||
4 | Robert and Melford Phelps; his infant sister; and his | ||||||
5 | sons-in-law, Kelly Hollon and Scott Holt; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ollie Phelps is survived by his wife of 55 years, | ||||||
7 | Ellen Phelps; his daughters, Debra (Rusty) Mortz, Kathie Holt, | ||||||
8 | Tina (Paul) Maas, Sandra Hollon, and Kellie (Charlie) Erritt; | ||||||
9 | his grandchildren, Stephanie Carey, Kiel and Dan Mortz, Brad | ||||||
10 | and Kari Johnson, Desiree Samples, Billy Enlow, Erek Pittman, | ||||||
11 | Jeannie and Levi Kokos, Mike and Shayleen Hollon, Aaron and | ||||||
12 | Zachary Carlin, and Bella Erritt; his 30 great-grandchildren; | ||||||
13 | his 12 great-great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Lloyd | ||||||
14 | (Laura) Phelps and Larry (LaNelle) Phelps; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
17 | Ollie Ray "Ozzie" Phelps and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
