2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Leonard E. Krusemark of Lincoln, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 1, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was born to Elmer and Ruth Gould | ||||||
6 | Krusemark in San Jose, Illinois on March 18, 1930; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Hartsburg High School in 1947 and attended the University | ||||||
8 | of Illinois, joining the ROTC; he married Betty Ann Cross in | ||||||
9 | Emden on January 22, 1950; while serving in the Illinois | ||||||
10 | National Guard after college, Leonard's unit was called up in | ||||||
11 | 1951; commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Officer Training | ||||||
12 | and Communications, he and his family were stationed at Ft. | ||||||
13 | Benning, Georgia, Camp Cooke, California, and Ft. Lewis, | ||||||
14 | Washington until after the Korean War ended in 1953; after his | ||||||
15 | service, he farmed for over 50 years on the family property | ||||||
16 | southwest of Emden; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Serving the community was important to Leonard | ||||||
18 | Krusemark, and he was happiest when he found some way to help; | ||||||
19 | he served in leadership positions on the Farm Bureau and the | ||||||
20 | Soil and Water Conservation Board; he also held a position on | ||||||
21 | the Hartsburg-Emden School Board and tutored younger students | ||||||
22 | in math and reading; in 2009, he received the Hartem Alumni | ||||||
23 | Wall of Fame "Service to the District" Award for his efforts; |

1 | he was a regular and committed blood donor who donated over 23 | ||||||
2 | gallons of blood over the years; he also served as a volunteer | ||||||
3 | at the Abraham Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark worked on several projects for | ||||||
5 | the Logan County Habitat for Humanity and served on the Board | ||||||
6 | of Directors for 25 years; in recognition, he was presented an | ||||||
7 | Honorary Lifetime Membership award in 2019; Leonard was | ||||||
8 | instrumental in securing and building the first Habitat house | ||||||
9 | in Emden, and he was honored as the Lincoln Courier Citizen of | ||||||
10 | the Year in 1998 for his contributions; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was an active member of St. | ||||||
12 | Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, where he taught an adult Sunday | ||||||
13 | School class for over 50 years; he also served on the Church | ||||||
14 | Council and the Worship Planning Committee, taught the Bethel | ||||||
15 | Bible Series, was a member and past president of the Men in | ||||||
16 | Mission Organization, was a member of Men's Brotherhood, and | ||||||
17 | sang in the church choir; in the absence of a regular pastor, | ||||||
18 | he taught confirmation classes; Leonard was continually active | ||||||
19 | in Kogudus, by which thousands of people deepened their faith | ||||||
20 | through weekend retreats and continued fellowship; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark made family a priority and | ||||||
22 | especially enjoyed the annual summer camp outs with his | ||||||
23 | children and grandchildren; music was a big part of Leonard's |

1 | life, and he instilled that love of music in his family; he | ||||||
2 | will be remembered as a faithful, selfless, honest, loyal, | ||||||
3 | humble, and generous man, full of integrity; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was preceded in death by his | ||||||
5 | parents; his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Ann; his sister, | ||||||
6 | Violet Alberts; and his daughter, Kay Tubbs; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark is survived by his four | ||||||
8 | daughters, Sue Krusemark, Jill (Jamie) Voyles, Jan (Brian) | ||||||
9 | Anderson, and Joy (Larry) Knicl; his son-in-law, Dick Tubbs; | ||||||
10 | his eight grandchildren, Adam (Mel Bise) Voyles, Collin | ||||||
11 | (Jessica Martin) Voyles, Shelby (Jake Mohr) Voyles, Erik | ||||||
12 | Anderson, Claire (Brandon) Schnier, Alex (Katelyn) Knicl, | ||||||
13 | Scott (Jessica) Knicl, and Lauren Knicl; his three | ||||||
14 | great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Ally, and Dominic Knicl; his | ||||||
15 | sister, Mary Lou Klokkenga; his brothers, Larry (Becky) | ||||||
16 | Krusemark and Dave (Noi) Krusemark; and his many nieces and | ||||||
17 | nephews; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
20 | Leonard E. Krusemark and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
