SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of MoDena "Mo" Stinnette, PhD., who
passed away on April 26, 2024; and
WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette was born on October 9, 1969; she
was an author, mother, daughter, sister, counselor, certified
peer recovery support specialist, professor, community
psychologist, and personal hero to many; and
WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette spent many years of her life
battling substance use disorder and was extremely proud of her
recovery; and
WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette received a BA in 2007, an MBA in
2009, and a PhD. in community psychology in 2022, all from
National Louis University, where she was an active member of
the community, serving as president of the Student Assembly
and participating in the Black Student Union; and
WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette published the book Inside Out in
2010; and
WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette was an avid fan of the character
Batman; and

WHEREAS, MoDena Stinnette always looked out for the
underdog, the disenfranchised, the lost, and the broken; she
was never boastful or proud and was known as someone who would
show up, roll up her sleeves, and help; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
MoDena "Mo" Stinnette, PhD., and extend our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it further
