| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Gorden G. Gass of Granite City, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 17, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was born on February 11, 1929, in | ||||||
6 | Virden; he married Mary Jane Brugger on January 24, 1959, in | ||||||
7 | Woodriver; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass proudly served his country as a member | ||||||
9 | of the United States Army's 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th | ||||||
10 | Infantry Division during the Korean War; he received a Purple | ||||||
11 | Heart for injuries sustained on July 9, 1952, in the Chor'wan | ||||||
12 | Valley while assaulting an enemy machine gun position and | ||||||
13 | recovered from those wounds at the Walter Reed Medical Center | ||||||
14 | in Washington D.C.; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass worked as a farmer in the Granite City | ||||||
16 | area since the 1950s; he served as a board member of the | ||||||
17 | Madison Service Company; he was a member of the Farm Bureau for | ||||||
18 | more than 60 years; he served on the Madison County Ditch and | ||||||
19 | Drainage Committee as a Commissioner; he also served on the | ||||||
20 | University of Illinois Extension Council; and

21 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was a member of American Legion Post |

1 | 199 of Edwardsville and the Sons of the American Revolution; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass held a pilot license for more than 20 | ||||||
4 | years and enjoyed his days of flying; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was preceded in death by his parents, | ||||||
6 | Clyde R. Gass and Lillian K., nee Smith, Gass; his brothers, | ||||||
7 | Clyde Gass, Robert Gass, Kenneth Gass, William Gass, and | ||||||
8 | Richard Gass; his sisters, Doris McNaughton, Helen Felts, and | ||||||
9 | Ruth Wilson; and his son-in-law, Rick Harvey; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Gorden Gass is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, | ||||||
11 | nee Brugger, Gass; his son, Jeff Gass; his daughters, Marilyn | ||||||
12 | Harvey and Linda (Patrick) Burgess; his sister, Esther Quinn; | ||||||
13 | and his many extended family members and friends; therefore, be | ||||||
14 | it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
17 | his family and friends, the passing of Gorden G. Gass; and be | ||||||
18 | it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Gorden Gass as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | sympathy.
